Name: Nikolas Pastelas Home Address: N. Kasomouli 3, Thessaloniki, Greece, 54655 Age: 24 Contact: budomaru@aim.com, (+031) 2310 417-095, 6993853151 Foreign Languages: Fluent English EDUCATION: Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki, Department of Automation: 5th year (cirriculum complete, only training pending) Department of Automation home page WORK EXPERIENCE: Hellenic Petroleum: Six months total of labor as a loader-unloader. Duties involved packaging PVC dust in sacks and loading chemicals on chemical transport trucks. AUTOMATION RELATED EXPERIENCE: Besides the experience gained from educational labs attended, most of my experience comes from my graduation project which involved mostly electronics, microcontrollers and some basic mechanics. The gist of what I've worked with and worked on are explained in the Circuits and Designs section of this home page. The graduation project itself had a goal of building the basic structures of a swarm of underwater autonomous robots, capable of checmically sampling an area of water, charting it and collecting physical samples as well. Throughout the process of completing the project, many new skills besides the obvious technical skills were developed, such as learning to work on a small budget, working in a team and learning to manage a project with multiple parts better. From my education, I have basic skills in programming PLCs, SCADA software, CAD software (AutoCAD), C++ and BASIC programming and using CNC machines, to name the most immediately useful skills in the automation industry. I am also competent in C programming and in using Linux, to the extent my experience has taught me. WORK INTERESTS: I would enjoy to work on nearly anything involving electronics, robotics and mechatronics, man-machine interfaces, embedded programming and technology combining embedded and non-embedded control, artificial intelligence and intelligent control as well as any autonomous machinery. I would also enjoy working on scientific equipment, sensors and data acquisition, though I'd prefer the areas I mentioned first in this paragraph to these, if available. Obviously, I do not have the training or knowledge for most of these areas, however I am willing to put time into learning more about them as needed since I have a deep interest in these fields. PERSONAL ASSESMENT: I place a lot of importance on completeness and effectiveness as first priorities and think of precision and thoroughness as being equally important once the first two are satisfied. I find that modularity, extensibility and ease of use, without sacrificing functionality are also very important parts of a design or modification. I have no problem working in a group, but prefer it when I share an understanding of priorities and a creative interest with a group. During my studies I have often preferred to work alone when I considered my fellow's interests to be too different from my own, but I have sometimes found it more necessary to cooperate when it presents mutual benefit than to be absolute in my perspectives. Regarding what I believe to be my personal strengths, I find learning new programming languages to be an easy task and have little difficulty thinking creatively with them after some exposure. I enjoy learning new systems and do not fear the need to study and practice in order to improve my skills.
